Brisbane Violin Lessons

Pathways to Music violin (or viola) lessons – in the Brisbane suburb of Corinda – cater for all experience levels, for students aged five to adulthood. We embrace the Colourstrings approach, which is student-centred and draws on the aural musicianship foundations taught in our Early Childhood and Musicianship classes. Developed since 1970 in Finland by Hungarian brothers, Géza and Csaba Szilvay, Colourstrings is founded on the principles of Zoltán Kodály, and is now taught worldwide with extraordinary results. Our violin and viola lessons foster the holistic development of technical skills alongside a genuine connection to music. Our expert teachers ensure the development of both the technical and artistic aspects of violin or viola performance, enriching students with an experience that will stay with them for a lifetime.

Violin within String Ensembles

The Pathways to Music string program is unique in that it involves both individual tuition and ensemble lessons. Violinsts are able to hone their individual technical skills and receive one on one, tailored violin lessons as well as developing the skills required to play successfully in a group with others. (And the same applies for our viola students). Ensembles are tailored to the interests and capacities of individual students, and students are also strongly encouraged to undertake Musicianship Classes.

Select students who learn violin or viola outside the Pathways to Music program are also able to participate in the ensemble program. Placement in an ensemble on these grounds is decided by recommendation and/or audition and is dependent on students’ technical and performance abilities.

“The Pathways program is highly valued by our family.

Our 9 year-old daughter is able to learn from one of the best violin teachers in Brisbane, attend an outstanding Kodály-based, musicianship program, and then be extended in the string ensemble every Saturday. She finds it a truly enriching experience and it is one she looks forward to every week. The Colour Strings and Kodály methodologies of teaching combined have seen her performance and aural abilities accelerate substantially. We look forward to having our younger daughters attend the program when they are older.”
