The Pathways to Music Piano Program
EXPERT TEACHERS | BESPOKE TUITION | ALL AGES & EXPERIENCE LEVELS
Our piano program is overseen by one of Australia’s leading piano teachers and performers Mark Hooper. We foster the holistic development of technical skills alongside a genuine connection to music. Our expert teachers ensure development of both the technical and artistic aspects of piano performance, offering an enriching experience that will stay with students for a lifetime. We cater for all capabilities and experience levels, and offer tuition for preschoolers, primary and secondary school students and adults.
Our teachers: Mark Hooper
Mark Hooper studied piano at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, the Royal College of Music, London and The Banff Centre, Canada. An accomplished international performer and teacher, Mark’s career has included teaching piano at Oxford University, performing in concerts worldwide and working closely with renowned composers such as Sir Peter Maxwell Davies and Steve Reich. Mark has also released five solo CDs. Mark shares his joy and passion for the piano in private lessons that are tailored to each individual student. Students of all ages love Mark’s warm and engaging approach.
Campbell Kelly recently completed his Bachelor of Music (Honours) with the aid of a full scholarship and is now continuing with a Masters of Music Research through the Queensland Conservatorium. Throughout his studies Campbell has been exposed to various musical and teaching styles, having the opportunity to learn from respected pedagogues and pianists Oleg Stepanov, Daniel De Borah and Mark Hooper. Campbell is an enthusiastic teacher finding great satisfaction in teaching all age groups. He has a specific interest in the formative years of a student’s piano study, directing content towards ‘keying-in’ the student’s ear within a focused play environment.
The first lesson was so beautiful that I got all teary.
“I’d heard much about Mark Hooper and I decided to give piano one last try with my then 8 year old, after two years of unhappy lessons. The first lesson was so beautiful that I got all teary. The connection Mark forms with his students is a privilege and a joy to behold. Piano has become about joy rather than scales (but he does still enforce regular practise!).”
By its very nature, piano playing tends to be a solo experience. The Piano Ensemble program is designed to give piano players the opportunity to work with other musicians in a range of settings.
Ensembles may include piano duets/ trios, chamber group configurations with other instruments, and accompanying soloists and groups. Pianists will enhance their skills by learning to play their part while listening to and communicating with others, while enjoying the engagement and socialisation that comes with playing alongside other musicians.
Ensembles are tailored to the interests and capacities of individual students, and students are also strongly encouraged to undertake Musicianship Classes.

I ‘learnt’ piano as a child, and walked away from that experience believing that I could not, and would not, ever be able to play. Nearly 40 years later, I found the courage to embrace my dream and started lessons with Mark Hooper after watching how amazing he is with our girls.
“He’s patient when he needs to be, and firm when he needs to be, knowing seemingly instinctively what we need and when. It’s now a family affair; even my husband has started lessons too! Saturday mornings are my favourite day of the week, and I’m ever so grateful for Mark’s encouragement as I endeavour to find some ‘me’ time in this crazy busy world.”
I can never thank you enough every time I see Monica enjoying practicing piano at home!
“Thank you Mr Hooper for teaching Monica. You are the perfect piano teacher! You help bring back Monica’s passion for learning piano in a very positive way. I can never thank you enough every time I see Monica enjoying practicing piano at home! Much appreciate it.”
